News & Reviews: Candyman, Archer & Shang Chi

Talking about the upcoming Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings with one of it’s stars Fala Chen, only made me more excited for the film, giving the film two thumbs. This new character in the MCU is a fresh twist of legend and hero with tons of comedy in-between. Awkwafina and Simu Liu are a great pairing with a chemistry equal to Tony Stark and Rhoadie. Watch this film in the theater if you can, its a fun time at the cinema.

Looking at Candyman, the 2021 sequel slash revival as it hits theaters this weekend has me feeling nostalgic. Yahya Abdul-Mateen plays a character that falls into the abyss of myth, with the history of Cabrini Green in Chicago changing him in ways he can’t understand. This film has a definite lean and a change in the message really. Less about “Fear the Boogeyman”, and more “We reap the horror we sow”. And while it had its fun moments, the CGI and story failed me at points. Overall I give the film a C grade.

Lastly, we’ve come to the 12th season of Archer on FXX. This animated tale is back in the spy game, albeit poorer and less powerful. But Underdog is where the ISIS team has always lived, so humor awaits. New and fresh writers have given the show an energy that is noticeable the last seasons. I look forward to what the season has in store for us! Chatting with some of the voice cast from the new season helped set the tone for where we begin. FXX’s Archer can be seen Wednesday’s at 10pm and the next day on Hulu.

I've met Presidents, dined with kings, flown a stunt plane, raced on-road and off, interviewed the stars, read the book, bought the comic, played the game and kissed the girl. I also like nachos. #CoffeeIsForClosers
