News & Review: Halloween Kills, The Last Duel, Hightown Season 2 & Wolfboy & the Everything Factory

In theaters comes the return of Michael Meyers with Halloween Kills. And while fire destroys, true evil can always rise from the ashes. Dark and bloody, this film doesn’t stop as Michael delivers anguish and pain, so this gets a B minus from me.

Also in theaters, is The Last Duel from Ridley Scott. Co-written and starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. This film is based upon a true story with a famed knight challenging a squire to a duel in France in 1386 after a despicable act was committed. And while this movie does aim for accuracy and an underlying message, the emotion and delivered cinema are darker and more muddled than probably intended. Subtleties of truth are lost as multiple viewpoints drive home hard to swallow scenes. If you’re a true cinephile, you’ll understand the sharp edges and sour notes, but for everyone else, they will not find it as palatable and would be better waiting for it to hit a streaming service.

Jumping to TV we get the second season of Hightown on Starz starring Monica Raymond. A getaway on the water with drugs, murder and addiction just below the waves. The show returns with our imperfect officers, led more by revenge and personal wants, than justice. Talking with stars Monica Raymond and James Badge Dale, we get a glimpse of where we start back up with our main character. Complicated with twists and turns, Hightown is worth the binge to catch up, so it gets a B from me.

Lastly, we jump to Apple TV plus’s Wolfboy and the Everything Factory. A fun animated tale where imagination reigns, as simple artwork lends to simple ideals for all ages. Talking with Joseph Gordon Levitt, who is a producer and voice on the show, he tells us more of why he got involved. Fun for the whole family, it gets a B+ from me.

I've met Presidents, dined with kings, flown a stunt plane, raced on-road and off, interviewed the stars, read the book, bought the comic, played the game and kissed the girl. I also like nachos. #CoffeeIsForClosers
