News & Reviews: CopShop, Cry Macho & Tacoma FD Season 3

Handcuffing itself to theater seats this weekend is Copshop starring Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo. The story follows a con man on the run that gets himself arrested to essentially hide out in a small town police station. Unfortunately, the hired guns looking for him are not going to let a little thing like “The Law” get in their way. From the director that made movies like Smokin Aces, The A-team and boss level comes a slow burn movie that explodes with a B+ rating from me!

Next up, in theaters and also streaming on HBO Max is Cry Macho starring Clint Eastwood. Promoted everywhere and slanting for the nostalgia of past Eastwood classics, the film finds the 91 year old lead as a former rodeo rider and horse trainer that’s still a cowboy at heart, even when put out to pasture. Somehow his character is the best choice to be put on a mission, so he travels south to save a youngster and his rooster. From there, we get some meandering moments, picturesque scenery and good writing that just doesn’t fit with a nonagenarian (aka 90 years plus). I love Eastwood and his history, but think this film goes off track a couple times, so it gets a C from me. Saddle up if you’re interested, if not, maybe mosey over to HBO max, as it currently has some other Eastwood cinema options.

Lastly, we jump to Tru TV and the third season of Tacoma FD. Fans of the show love this comedic firefighter series starring and produced by some of the Broken Lizard guys, aka the Super Troopers troupe. Talking to Kevin Heffernon and Steve Lemme, they tell us why viewers should be excited. Solid B grade for me with this show, good for a laugh. Lots of goofiness and shenanigans to be had.
