Review: Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Final Season

Star Wars: The Clone Wars just finished the 7th and final season for the popular animated series that appeared to be cancelled in 2014 due to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilms and all of it’s intellectual properties. However, it was announced last year that the series would get a conclusion with a 12 episode season in 2020, and it would air on Disney’s new streaming service Disney+.

The series follows the adventures of the heroes and villains of the Clone Wars, the time period between Ep. II: Attack of the Clones & Ep. III: Revenge of the Sith, particularly one Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker’s padawan learner, and the clone troopers of the 501st legion.

Overall, the show gives a satisfying conclusion to the whole series, and makes it a must watch for any Star Wars fan. It has a strong start and a weak middle, but the final 4-episode arch is the best work the series has done. It masterfully handles the difficult task of bringing a satisfactory ending to this chapter of the stories of characters whose fates we already know, while still surprising you, showing you new angles, raising the stakes, and keeping you engaged. We get to see the main characters at their best one last time, and the tragic end we’ve always known was coming, is heightened by how the series made you wish things could happen differently. In a nutshell, this is Star Wars at it’s best.
