Review: She’s In Portland

When a guy finds out his best friends college crush is still thinking about him years later, he buys a Bronco and takes him on a love quest to get the girl.

Wes (Tommy Dewey) is over the whole cookie-cutter life. He married his high school sweetheart at 19 and feels stuck in a rut. Luke (François Arnaud) wants to find love but is having a difficult time. At this point, he wants to leave his life behind and start over.

Excited to see his best friend who lives on the opposite side of the country, Wes and his wife wait for Luke at their school reunion. While they are there, they run into Luke’s old crush. He finds out she’s an artist living in Portland.

When Luke never shows, Wes decides to take Luke with him on his work trip and go after the “one that got away.” Through their journey, Luke keeps second-guessing the decision, and Wes does everything in his power to make sure Luke takes his shot at love.

Throughout their trip, they meet various women; A couple of bohemian college girls and a recent divorcée and her best friend—each with a story and outlook on love and life.

She’s In Portland is your standard road trip movie. It’s well-acted; unfortunately, most of the characters are a bit insufferable. The stakes are never high enough to feel any tension. And the female characters are portrayed as fantasies instead of real people, which almost makes this seem like the film was supposed to be an over-the-top comedy but somehow ended up a drama. Honestly, this movie would have worked better as a comedy.

Good acting and a great premise couldn't save She's In Portland from being average. The film would have worked better as a comedy.

Incredibly awkward. Fantastically sarcastic, and very, very small. Lover of movies, musicals, & TV.
