To fight a constant state of worry, a group of women start a choir while their partners are in Afghanistan. Inspired by actual events, these military wives take their talent to the big stage. And in the end, they spread a message of love to let others know they are not alone.

Lisa (Sharon Hogan) is assigned to create an activity for the wives living on the base. Kate (Kristin Scott Thomas), the Colonel’s wife, lends a hand to help. The two women constantly butt heads on every decision. They finally decide to start a choir. These two may not be a match made in perfect harmony, but they end up creating a community and long-lasting friendships.

While it may start bland, the movie does make you smile. The chemistry between the cast helps to bring this story to life. The moments where the group is beginning to form and harmonize are the high points of this film. There’s always something fulfilling seeing a group struggle and gradually get better.

That being said, it was oddly missing more music. For a movie based on a choir, there wasn’t nearly enough. The parts where they were singing is what held my interest. There’s a random moment in the film where the women go on a hike and burst into song. The scene felt somewhat out of place, but it was the first moment you start to feel the group connect.

The two leads are the heartbeat of this film. They drive the movie from start to finish. Because of them and the supporting cast members, it ends on a high note.

Knowing this is based on a true story, you feel proud of these women. And as a result, you will probably look up the real story when the movie ends.

The movie may start bland, but it does make you smile. There are a few jokes that didn't seem to land, but the connection between the characters drives the movie. In the end, it's an uplifting story that makes you feel good.
