Review- Fear Street: Prom Queen
The Fear Street saga on Netflix has become an iconic piece of media. The three-part film series features an intriguing storyline, rich characters, outstanding performances, and impressive kills. However, this recent addition feels like a mundane installment that fails to connect to the Fear Street series, apart from being set in the same town.
The Fear Street series has a rich lore surrounding the town of Shadyside, which is plagued by possessed killers to ensure that its rival town, Sunnyvale, can thrive. Although Prom Queen is set within the same timeframe as the Fear Street series, it diverges from this lore and takes its own path. The story focuses on a group of girls competing for the title of prom queen while being hunted by a killer. However, the plot does not connect to the town’s curse at all.

Prom Queen had the potential to be something great, but it ultimately failed miserably. The script is mind-numbing, and the characters lack depth. The only highlight of the movie is the performances. India Fowler, as Lori Granger, was a sweet addition, and I believe she could have excelled with a better script. Unfortunately, this movie doesn’t even succeed as a good campy slasher film. It had great potential but tried to take itself too seriously. If you’re going to deviate from the original series, make it worthwhile; otherwise, just leave it alone. Do yourself a favor and skip this one and rewatch the original trilogy instead.
