CINEMACON 2023, Day 4:

Joy Ride Reaction, Hunger Games Teaser Premiere

Rated-R Road Trip Comedy, Joy Ride took LITERAL center stage during Lionsgate’s presentation. And, the lucky convention goers at CinemaCon 2023 got to have a true Joy Ride reaction before the night was over.

This includes a septet of hilarious Asian American women from in front of and behind the camera.

First-time Director Adele Lim, best known as the Writer of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ kicked off the Q&A, along with Family Guy writer Cherry Chevapravatdumrong, and Teresa Hsiao, from Awkwafina’s show ‘Nora In Queens.’

The road-tripping foursome also showed off.  Lead star Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar Nominee Stephanie Hsu, and standup comedian Sabrina Wu also took the stage.  Producer Seth Rogen also took the stage to help introduce a screening of the film hitting theaters July 7.

Day 4 of CinemaCon 2023, features Lionsgate’s presentation of it’s 2023 slate of films to the National Association Of Theater Owners.  The presentation of the films was a quick recap of previously known Lionsgate films, including Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret; and Sisu; which BOTH open this weekend.

Adam Fogelson, Vice President, Motion Picture Group; and David Spitz, President, Worldwide Theatrical Distribution presented the films.  Other films talked about include About My Father, Sebastian Maniscalco‘s BioPic with Robert DeNiro playing his Father; a cast list for The Expendables 4, hitting theaters September 22; Saw X, and ‘Ordinary Angels‘ in association with Kingdom Entertainment.

We also get the World Premiere of the Teaser Trailer for Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes immediately before the Joy Ride screening.

Joy Ride Reaction

While respecting an embargo on reviews for Joy Ride, we can post reactions to Joy Ride.

Joy Ride follows Audrey (Ashley Park), an Asian-Amercian woman adopted as a baby, and Lo Lo (Sherry Cola) on a road trip to the land of Audrey’s birth, China.  Along the way, Audrey’s college friend, Kat (Stephanie Hsu), and Lo Lol’s Cousin ‘Dead Eye’ (Sabrina Wu) join the group.

Like many great Road Trip movies, Joy Ride isn’t just about a trek around China; it’s a hilarious journey for our characters.  The crowd of roughly 5000 at Caesar’s Palace audibly laughed throughout the screening, at the never ending stream of no-holds-barred Comedy.

In what feels like a spiritual successor to The Hangover, Joy Ride takes you along with the mismatched foursome on a series of Chinese adventures that will have you rolling in the aisle.

Of all the films Lionsgate had to screen at CinemaCon, it appears they made a great choice screening Joy Ride.

Joy Ride hits theaters July 7.
