Tiff 2025 Review: Whitetail

Carrying the guilt from a tragic accident in her teens, Jen (Natasha O’Keeffe) must find a way forward as her past catches up with her.

When we meet Jen as a teen (Played by Abby Fitz), she and her boyfriend (Sean Treacy) are in the woods hunting deer. When Jen takes a shot she realizes she made a mistake that will haunt her for the rest of her life.

“Whitetail” is a slow-burning psychological drama that explores a woman’s past as she grapples with her feelings of guilt. The film relies heavily on its lead actress due to its minimalistic and unhurried pacing. O’Keeffe delivers a stunning performance that is emotionally captivating. She is surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Ireland, adding to the film’s visual appeal.

Where “Whitetail” falters is in its storytelling. The pacing is slow and the tone is muted, making it somewhat tedious to get through. While the story is captivating, it feels like it lacks the elements that would push it more into the “thriller” category.

O’Keeffe delivers a captivating performance in this film, making it worth a watch. While the initial plot is intriguing, the execution falls short. Unfortunately, despite the beautiful visuals and excellent acting, the film’s agonizingly slow pace detracts from the overall experience.
