F*** Marry Kill is not a profound piece of media. You won’t leave with a deeper understanding of any subject or contemplate a significant message that the film attempts to convey. It is, at best, a mediocre thriller rom-com, and that’s what makes it somewhat great.
Eva (Lucy Hale) is experiencing a dating slump after a recent break-up. Like many women, she turns to dating apps in search of love—or at least a fun hook-up. While it’s common for every girl to worry about the possibility of going on a date with a murderer, Eva’s anxiety is heightened by the fact that there is actually a serial killer on the loose targeting women who use dating apps. As she navigates the dating world with her best friends and an overbearing sister who tracks her every move, she starts to suspect she may be dating the “Swipe Right Killer” that is terrorizing her town.
If you’re in the mood for a slasher film, F*** Marry Kill isn’t really that kind of movie. While it is a thriller, it focuses more on build-up than on action. The plot is surprisingly engaging, though some dialogue is atrocious; however, it effectively hits all the comedic notes. The pacing is steady, and the twists are genuinely unanticipated. This movie is perfect for a Saturday night viewing with your closest girlfriends, accompanied by rosé and plenty of junk food. You won’t regret watching it, but you’ll definitely be left wanting more. I wouldn’t kill this film, but I wouldn’t marry it either. So, I guess that means it’s just a really good one-night stand.
