Review: Trolls World Tour

Trolls World Tour is the first major movie to be digitally released in these unprecedented times. In my opinion, it’s an incredibly smart move on Universals part. This movie will bring you some joy while quarantined. 

Poppy (Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Justin Timberlake) are back in their felt filled glitter-splattered world. The movie kicks off with a medley of jukebox jams that get cut short when we learn Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom) is on a quest to unite the trolls under one music genre, rock.

Poppy and Branch set out to unite the six troll tribes so they can all live in pitch-perfect harmony. Their journey gives us precisely what the title says, a world tour. 

In all honesty, it’s just an excuse to have an excellent soundtrack, and I’m okay with that. Especially with the devastatingly good track, we get from Kelly Clarkson. There’s something magical that happens when Kelly Clarkson sings country music. Seriously, if you don’t want to watch this movie, do yourself a favor and listen to “Born To Die.” You’ll thank me later.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for this sequel. I’m still a huge NSYNC fan, and Anna Kendrick remains one of my favorite actresses of this generation. So I had some pretty high expectations for this. And Trolls World Tour did not disappoint me.

I do feel like something is missing from this movie. I still can’t quite put my finger on what that is yet. That being said, Trolls World Tour doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to entertainment value. 

It’s vibrant and fun in these dark and scary times. Jukebox hits and witty jokes will take your mind off the real world for a little while. And while it may not beat the original, it is thoroughly enjoyable and just plain fun! I know my family, and I had the best time watching this. We all had the biggest smiles on our faces throughout the entire movie.

The theme of the first Trolls centered on finding out what makes you happy and belonging in your community. Trolls World Tour also comes with a big message. The underlying theme is, we all may have our differences, but that is what makes us unique. And no matter who you are or where you are from, we have one thing that will connect us, and that is music.
