Review: The Outrun

Saoirse Ronan takes on the role of Rona in this poignant film that delves into the devastating effects of alcohol addiction. “The Outrun” unfolds through a non-linear timeline, intensifying the impact of Rona’s struggle. We witness how alcohol seeps into every aspect of her life, poisoning her relationships and friendships. Rona’s journey from spiraling out of control to finding a path to recovery is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Still, the scars of her past remain, a constant reminder of the havoc addiction can wreak.

This story will resonate with anyone who has struggled with addiction or has known someone impacted by addiction. The story features beautiful scenery and outstanding acting but doesn’t fully grasp your attention. The pacing is very slow, but the non-linear storytelling helps to ease the pain. One great addition is the way sound is used. The transition from high winds to pumping club music is unique and inventive. However, during the slower points in the story, attention tends to wane, and I found myself checking the remaining time.

“The Ourtun” is an emotionally intense exploration of how addiction can engulf a person. Saoirse Ronan delivers another Oscar-worthy performance as she skillfully portrays the devastating impact of addiction. Her portrayal is profoundly moving and captivating in every scene. I believe this may be the finest performance of her career.

“The Outrun” powerfully portrays how addiction can take over a person’s life and affect those around them. It’s a heavy story of healing, told in a unique non-linear timeline. While the pacing may be slow and could potentially lose the audience’s attention, there’s no denying that Saoirse Ronan’s performance is truly spectacular.
