Review: The Life List

Life is a curious journey. When you’re young, you have hopes and dreams, but as you grow older, your plans often shift. Eventually, you may find yourself settling for less. Your happiness can start to fade, and you might feel like just another mindless drone trying to get through the day.

This is the reality for Alex (Sofia Carson). The troubling part is that she doesn’t realize it, but her mother does. Life is a funny thing. When you are young, you have hopes and dreams, but as you get older, the plans you make seem to change. Then, at some point, you start to settle. Your happiness starts to dwindle, and you become just another mindless drone trying to make it through the day.

This is the reality for Alex (played by Sofia Carson). The issue is that she is unaware of it, but her mother (Connie Britton) notices. Before her mother passes away, she gives Alex a scavenger hunt—a list of life events crafted by her younger self. As Alex revisits her childhood goals, her lawyer, Brad (Kyle Allen), will guide her to each item on the list until she completes them. Once all the tasks are done, she will receive her inheritance.

Sofia Carson’s performance is somewhat lackluster when she is alone in a scene, but she truly shines when interacting with the other characters—her friends, family, and love interests. This also reflects her character’s depth. Like many people, Alex flourishes in the presence of loved ones, but when she’s alone, her emotions tend to overshadow her brightness.

“The Life List” could easily become a standard “girls’ night” movie. It is an enjoyable film that is both entertaining and heartfelt. While there is a romantic element, it doesn’t overpower the storyline. The movie offers a little bit of everything—drama, comedy, and romance.

Incredibly awkward. Fantastically sarcastic, and very, very small. Lover of movies, musicals, & TV.
