Review: One of Them Days

When faced with eviction, Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) must find a way to pay their rent. As time runs out, the friends encounter one challenge after another while trying various strategies to make quick money. “One of Them Days” has a nostalgic feel, yet it has been modernized to reflect today’s world, and every aspect of it works seamlessly.

Keke Palmer is the heart and soul of this film. Her vibrant wit and charm light up every scene, and while the slapstick comedy is entertaining, it’s her reaction shots that make the moments truly hilarious. SZA proves to be an excellent scene partner, creating dynamite on-screen chemistry that allows both actresses to play off each other beautifully.

Often, comedies set in a single day can feel tiring due to their structure. However, “One of Them Days” does a fantastic job of telling the story while keeping you constantly engaged. As the two friends face obstacles, it never feels forced or arbitrary; everything makes sense and feels believable. There are even hilarious time stamps throughout the film, helping the audience track which part of the day they are watching, which is extremely helpful.

“One of Them Days” is an underrated film that hasn’t received much promotion but is thriving thanks to word of mouth, which actually enhances its appeal. Keke Palmer and SZA form a dynamic duo that delivers comedy from start to finish. This fantastic slapstick film is filled with heart and addresses several economic issues we face in society today. It’s a movie that truly deserves to be watched with an audience, as their presence enhances every scene.
