Review: Nonnas
After losing his mother, Joe Scaravella (played by Vince Vaughn) takes a bold leap by opening an Italian restaurant. His unique vision is to employ actual grandmothers as chefs, creating an atmosphere that makes diners feel at home. Based on a true story, “Nonnas” is a charming blend of comedy and heart, evoking nostalgic feelings that are sure to resonate with the entire family.
Nothing takes me back to my childhood quite like eating my grandmother’s special spaghetti sauce. Food is not just nourishment for the body; it also holds cherished memories. Watching this film transported me to the kitchen, where I would observe my grandmother cooking a meal made from the heart. That’s what makes this movie so special.
Vince Vaughn, along with the nonnas in the film—Roberta (Lorraine Bracco), Teresa (Talia Shire), Antonella (Brenda Vaccaro), and Gia (Susan Sarandon)—provides comedic moments that help tell this remarkable story. Joe doesn’t have much, but through determination and the support of his childhood best friend (played by Joe Manganiello), he makes his dreams become a reality. You can’t help but root for him throughout the entire film.
“Nonnas” is a heartfelt film filled with laughter and a few tears. It tells the true story of a man with a vision to honor the women in his life. This movie is a love letter to all the moms and grandmothers out there making it a perfect watch for Mother’s Day weekend.
