Returning to spark the good deeds that can be accomplished through evil intentions is Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The title character once again portrayed by Angelina Jolie, with all the horns and sharp angles a dark faerie can muster.
We return with Maleficent’s peace being interrupted by her “beastie” Aurora (Elle Fanning) as she decides to chase after a boy and perhaps his kingly life. Trying to connect and appease her young ward, Maleficent visits the castle and the parents of the young Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson), the boy that has stolen Aurora’s heart.
Still a forbidding character, her restraint and emotions are put to the test by the Queen (Michelle Pfeiffer). A bitter women with disdain and dark intentions. She welcomes Aurora into her home, while needling Maleficent in hope of drawing out the monster.
Separation and pain are the mindset Maleficent must live in as she is whisked away by a strange being. The world is bigger than she knows and the truth that she has lived with these many years may just be a fantasy.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is a simple extension from the Sleeping Beauty franchise that is working hard to expand the fairy tale into a much large story with many more characters. In true Disney fashion you can see the monetization aspects with every pixey or fairy creature we are introduced to. This movie is for those that love Disney, or are perhaps awaiting a Princess moment to occur. As a film it didn’t need to be made, or maybe, it should have been released on the upcoming Disney+ streaming platform. That being said, this film will still make money as we are in a bit of a dry spell for child-friendly films.

RN review of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Magic and action shine bright to cover a weak sequel.
