Review: Heartstopper Season 2

Season one of Heartstopper was a sweet and touching tale of two boys falling in love. Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) are back. While season one is the story of the two realizing their friendship is so much more, season 2 is about how their romance blooms. Plus, how do you make a show even more romantic? You set the season in Paris. Most of the episodes take place on a school trip to France. And Honestly, that little getaway adds so much. We get to spend more time with each character outside of their day-to-day life.

The show shifts from the will-they-won’t-they storyline to a deeper dive into their relationship. Charlie and Nick are more or less in their “honeymoon” stage. Everything is new and exciting. They’re not entirely out to all of their friends or the school, so that is one storyline season 2 tackles. This season doesn’t just focus on them but also the lives and relationships of their friends. Will Elle and Tao’s spark turn into a flame? Will Imogeon find true love? They dive into each and a few more unexpected side stories.

What you can appreciate about Heartstopper is how it deals with tough subjects while also having moments that will make you squeal and kick your feet out of happiness because it’s just a cute and wholesome show. For every difficult scene or subject matter, there’s another that is just pure joy. A lot of the side characters felt much more developed this season. That being said, it feels like Isaac is left behind and is thrown a story of his own towards the end. Heartstopper season two is just as loveable and cute as season one, and you can see just how adorable it is on August 3rd on Netflix.
