Review: 10 Cloverfield Lane

The Twilight Zone meets the human condition.

Without more knowledge than the trailer gave, I walked into this film not knowing if I would see monsters or just thrilling characters. The story begins with Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a woman escaping a relationship. Unfortunately, her escape leads to an accident that is pretty jarring.
Awakening in a concrete room within a bunker, she meets Howard (John Goodman), A self-proclaimed survivalist and doomsday afficionado. He informs her that the outside work has been attacked and that people are dead. If she wants to survive, she needs to stay inside with him and Emmet (John Gallagher Jr). Survival is the key, but trust is the foundation that people bank on.

Not knowing what to expect, I really did enjoy this thriller. John Goodman is fantastic, as he delivers quirk and fright in equal measures. The question of, what we should be afraid of more, has never been so front and center as the evil of mankind and the darkness of the unknown fight for our fear.
