Quentin Tarantino wanted Laurence Fishburne to play Luke Cage

Recently, Quentin Tarantino took to the airwaves by joining Amy Schumer on her Spotify podcast called “3 Girls, 1 Keith”. Among the things the discussed was the fact that he had condifered making a Luke Cage film in the 90’s with the starring role going to Laurence Fishburne.

โ€œThere was a time before all this Marvel shit was coming out,โ€ Tarantino said. โ€œIt was after โ€˜Reservoir Dogs,โ€™ it was before โ€˜Pulp Fiction,โ€™ and I had thought about doing โ€˜Luke Cage.โ€™ Growing up I was a big comic-book collector, and my two favorite [comic books] were โ€˜Luke Cage: Hero for Hire,โ€™ later โ€˜Luke Cage: Power Man,โ€™ and โ€˜Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu.’โ€

โ€œI had an idea that Larry Fishburne wouldโ€™ve been the perfect guy to play Luke Cage. But all my friends were like, โ€˜Itโ€™s got to be Wesley Snipes.โ€™ And I go, โ€˜Look, I like Wesley Snipes, but Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I think Fish is the man.โ€™ And theyโ€™re like, โ€˜Yeah, but heโ€™d have to get in shape in a big way. Snipes is that way already!โ€™ And I go, โ€˜Fuck that! Thatโ€™s not that important! Fuck you, you ruined the whole damn thing!โ€™โ€
