Eric Roberts talks Inside the Rain, film thoughts / friends & return to Doctor Who!

We had an amazingly fun interview with the great Eric Roberts. Reaching out to him to talk about his new film “Inside the Rain”. Starring Actor/Director Aaron Fisher, Emily Toland, Rosie Perez and himself. Roberts plays “Monty” a happy-go-lucky optimist that’s run out of luck recently. Luckily, he is always up to make a new friend with the money to start a new project. Usually delivering intense characters, it’s always fun to see Eric with a smile and a skip in his step.

In addition to talking about the film, we took the opportunity to fanboy a bit and talk about his other works. Of which, there are multitudes, 570+ by the current IMDB register, in fact. That mind boggling number had us asking the pro if he can always sense a “good set”, meaning a positive environment to work and create.

We also talked about how he was spending his time during quarantine, to which he replied reading. Interviewer Derek Sante was happy to hear this, as he had just finished Val Kilmer’s memoir the night before. And, of course, Roberts had nothing to but kind things to say about the fellow actor, having worked on a film together.

Jumping from that thought to other films coming out, we asked Eric for his opinion on the upcoming film Capone starring Tom Hardy. As he had also played Al Capone at one time. Though he shied away from any comparison admitting that we wasn’t really right for that part at that time in his career.

Lastly, we had to ask him about the landmark tournament film Best of the Best. A true 80’s competition movie with a very toned and determined Eric Roberts as the lead Alex Grady. The film, also starring James Earl Jones, Sally Kirkland, Chris Penn and Phillip Rhee (who continued the franchise as the lead with a 3rd and 4th film years later).

With never enough time, we had to ask one last question about Eric’s voice work, animated or otherwise. To which he let us in on the secret that another Doctor Who adventure from Big Finish is coming. So it seems The Master is returning! (Fans will remember his previous works with Big Finish, as well as his role as “The Master” in the 1996 TV movie.

Positive and easy to talk to, we hope to see much more amazing work from Mr. Roberts in the near future.
