Collette Review: Spider-Man No Way Home

Spider-Man No Way Home was one of the most anticipated movies this year. But the big question is, did it live up to the hype?

Now the movie has been out for a while, and I’m assuming if you clicked on this, you’ve watched it but just in case, spoiler warning ahead!

I’ve said before that Tom Hollands Spider-Man is perfectly cast but just missing something. Sure, we’ve seen Peter at the bottom in the previous two films, but he’s never truly hit rock bottom before. No way home changes this and finally turns him into Spider-Man.

With the world knowing his true identity, Peter Parker’s life is in shambles, and so are his loved ones. To try and rectify the situation, he enlisted Doctor Strange’s help to make people forget his identity. Seeing his pain Doctor Strange agrees to help Peter and begins a spell to make everyone forget Peter Parker is Spider-Man. The spell goes awry and lets others in from the multiverse who know Peter’s identity.

We’re introduced to favorite villains like Doctor Octopus, Electro, The Sandman, Dr. Curtis Connors as The Lizard, and The Green Goblin. While fighting these otherworldly villains, Peters’s life worsens because he loses the one person who means so much to him, Aunt May, which is a significant change from previous iterations that is probably one of the best decisions made. At his lowest, Peter is brought back to his feet by unlikely friends who know his pain well: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

People have been speculating this crossover for a while, almost so much that I didn’t want to let myself believe it so I wouldn’t be disappointed. But I’m happy to say the rumors are true. The nostalgia is excellent, but that’s not what made Spider-Man No Way Home a fantastic film.

The introduction of past Peters helps move Holland’s Peter forward. It’s also just an epic sight to see and makes you feel like a kid again watching it.

Out of all three of the MCU Spider-Man films, Spider-Man No Way Home is by far the best simply because of its storytelling. This movie had the bells and whistles, but it also had the missing elements the previous two films lacked. It made you connect to every character in a way that has not been done before.

Holland gives one of his best performances and shows how much he’s matured in the role. Garfield is a scene-stealer and milks every moment on camera. And Maguire brings back the innocence and lightheartedness that we missed so much from the character. Also, Willem Dafoe gives an outstanding performance as well.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed this movie. There’s something to be said about fan service. This was a perfect example of how to do it and why it works. It was such a wonderful experience to be in a theater that was packed with fans once again who were giddy from start to finish. It was long, but there were hardly any parts that dragged. I also honestly believe that this had one of the best endings to any Spider-Man film. It left me speechless as I left the theater. As for what’s next for the famous Web crawler, but I am so excited for what comes next.
