Quentin Tarantino wanted Laurence Fishburne to play Luke Cage
Recently, Quentin Tarantino took to the airwaves by joining Amy Schumer on her Spotify podcast called “3 Girls, 1 Keith”. Among the things the discussed was the fact that he had condifered making a Luke Cage film in the 90’s with the starring role going to Laurence Fishburne.
āThere was a time before all this Marvel shit was coming out,ā Tarantino said. āIt was after āReservoir Dogs,ā it was before āPulp Fiction,ā and I had thought about doing āLuke Cage.ā Growing up I was a big comic-book collector, and my two favorite [comic books] were āLuke Cage: Hero for Hire,ā later āLuke Cage: Power Man,ā and āShang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu.’ā
āI had an idea that Larry Fishburne wouldāve been the perfect guy to play Luke Cage. But all my friends were like, āItās got to be Wesley Snipes.ā And I go, āLook, I like Wesley Snipes, but Larry Fishburne is practically Marlon Brando. I think Fish is the man.ā And theyāre like, āYeah, but heād have to get in shape in a big way. Snipes is that way already!ā And I go, āFuck that! Thatās not that important! Fuck you, you ruined the whole damn thing!āā
