Sundance 2024: Freaky Tales – Too Short, Pedro Pascal & Jay Ellis drop a beat

One of the most interesting films to open during Sundance film Festival has to be Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Freaky Tales. This fun hip hop romp through Oakland, California bring the gangster and the beat to an ever changing story with alternate characters and angles. Think Grindhouse mixed with a Barry Gordie’s The Lat Dragon and you might come close to this film’s flavor.

Starring a bevy of talent including Jay Ellis, Pedro Pascal, Ben Mendelsohn, Jack Champion and the late Angus Cloud. Expect a no hold barred adventure through ‘Oaktown’ with that travels through the 80’s in style. And while we see the goal of the creators, we do see a struggle to keep things working in harmony at the end.

Catching famed Oakland Rapper Too Short, he tells us about this film and how it connect to the rap world and time he knew.
