It’s late at night, and Tereek (Steven Prescod) is looking for a place to stay without trying to reveal his lack of home. While texting a friend, he meets Artie (Robert Tarango), a deaf and blind man trying to find his way to the bus station.
After struggling for a moment, Tereek learns how to communicate with Artie. He guides him to the bus stop and chooses to stay with him until he is safely on his way. Through written words and touches, the two learn they’re not so different. Tereek starts to gain a new perspective on life. And as a result of this enlightening night, Tereek starts to pay it forward and help those in need.
Feeling Through is a short film with a long-lasting impact. Writer/director Doug Roland based this 19-minute piece on his real-life encounter with a deaf and blind man on the street. And it is one of the most emotional and profound films I have watched in a long time.
While the themes of being a good person and having empathy seem simple, Feeling Through shows the importance of those themes. How having a moment of compassion could change your entire outlook on life.
The performances were pure and stunning. Robert Tarango, who happens to be deaf and blind in real life, radiates joy and is a bright light on screen.
Feeling Through allows us to take a short walk in someone else’s shoes for a moment. It shows us the importance of a good conversation and an act of kindness. Most importantly, it teaches the viewer that a disability doesn’t define someone.
A great film can make you feel something beyond joy. A great film could re-store your faith in humanity. Feeling Thorough does that because it’s not just a movie; it’s almost like an immersive experience. It will tug at your heart and bring a tear to your eye. It’s a beautifully told story that is expertly directed and acted. I honestly don’t have one negative thing to say about this movie.
If you have 19 minutes to spare, spend it on this film. You won’t regret it.
